As the US and Vietnam are to celebrate the twentieth anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations, US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius today visited GM Vietnam’s Hanoi assembly facility for a joint charitable activity to support the local community.

GM Vietnam, part of American auto giant GM, donated electric fans to underprivileged families in Hanoi’s Thanh Tri district, a donation that complements the US Embassy’s motorbike helmet contribution to those in need.

This is part of the ongoing support of the local community by GM Vietnam and the US Embassy. The visit also included an overview of car manufacturing process during facility walk through.

“GM believes in serving and improving the communities in which we live and work around the world,” said Gaurav Gupta, managing director of GM Vietnam.

“We’re honoured to be working with Ambassador Osius and the US Embassy to highlight more ways in which we can support our neighbors,” Gupta added.

Ambassador Osius said, “In American culture, we respect the tradition of giving back to our community. GM is a great example of this.”

“To show my support for GM and all American companies that give back to their community, I am pleased to donate some special helmets that celebrate the 20th anniversary of US-Vietnam relations,” he noted.

The electric fans will help families in need improve their living conditions during Vietnam’s hot summer, while the helmets will keep children safe on the road.
GM Vietnam has actively engaged in corporate social responsibility.

Most recently, on June 12, it sponsored the planting of trees along inter-communal roads in Thanh Tri district.

Over the years, GM Vietnam has also organised blood donations, worked with Operation Smile Vietnam, offered support following natural disasters and coordinated with the One World Play Project and Football For All in Vietnam (FFAV) for the distribution of over 44,000 ultra-durable Chevrolet footballs to organisations that support children throughout the country.

In addition, it has sponsored the construction of 41 homes and presented gifts to underprivileged households and the disabled during the Lunar New Year (Tet) holiday.
