The decision was issued after the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment released the test result of the waste samples collected from the burial site. Accordingly, some samples’ xyanua (CN-) content exceeded harmful levels.
Bui Dinh Quang, deputy director of the Ha Tinh Police Department, said that the environmental company committed two violations. First, it signed a contract to deal with HFS’s waste mud without license from the authorities. Second, it disposed of the waste underground, which is not among its designated functions.
Regarding HFS, the company’s signing of a contract to deal with its waste with an environmental company that does not have such designated functions is not compliant with regulations. In addition, HFS broke its environmental protection commitments when it dealt with its hazardous waste illegally.
Previously, local authorities detected that the environmental company in Ky Anh town has buried over 100 tonnes of waste mud under the company director’s farm.
On July 12, the Police Department for Environmental Crime Prevention and Control (C49) carried out an investigation with the provincial police to verify these violations.
The local authorities immediately collected samples to test and determine whether the waste is harmful.
