Although urban areas are more likely to be struck hard by COVID-19, the negative impact of the pandemic on poor rural communities cannot be ignored. During the most recent outbreak in Vietnam, we have witnessed mass influxes of rural migrant workers returning to their places of origin in search of ways to survive and many smallholder farmers unable to sell their products due to supply chain disruptions.
