The project started in November 2022 with the goal of producing door closers over an area surpassing 4.3 hectares with an investment of $30 million.

At the inauguration ceremony, Martin Poxton, president of the Greater China and Southeast Asia region at ASSA ABLOY Group, noted, “We are here to celebrate the opening of our second major investment in Vietnam and the most important greenfield location to support ASSA ABLOY's global hardware manufacturing strategy."
Poxton stated that with this new plant, the company would supply a significant portion of door closers to their sales entities around the world.
“Through our strong commitment to social responsibility, we will continue to take the lead in our science-based target initiative and this plant will play a key role in helping us to continue to drive down our carbon footprint in line with that commitment. Through constantly investing and upgrading our equipment and facility, we aim to reach 50 per cent carbon footprint reduction by 2030 and net zero by 2050,” Poxton said.
Marie-Louise Thaning, counsellor and head of the trade, economic and political section at the Swedish embassy, “The strong presence of both ASSA ABLOY plants in Vinh Phuc and Haiphong has created hundreds of jobs for Vietnamese workers. ASSA ABLOY, together with other well-known Swedish companies in Vietnam, has made significant contributions not only to Vietnam’s economic development by intensifying bilateral trade and investment, but also enhancing safety and promoting sustainable living for the everyday lives of the Vietnamese people.”
Haiphong has attracted $40 billion inforeign direct investment, making it one of the top localities in Vietnam.
EU investors have engage in more than 50 projects, with a total investment value approximating $1.5 billion, accounting for 3.7 per cent, and Sweden invested in three projects, with a total investment value reaching $40.37 million.
Haiphong has become a successful investment destination for large corporations from Europe, such as Tesa, Polarium, ZF Automotive, and ASSA ABLOY.
These businesses have contributed to deepening bilateral cooperation between Vietnam and Sweden over the past 55 years, when Sweden was the first Western country to recognise and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam.

Speaking at the ceremony, Bruno Jaspaert, general director of DEEP C Industrial Zones, noted, “ASSA ABLOY has a development strategy focusing on sustainable development, which is completely consistent with DEEP C’s development strategy in which we desire and strive to make DEEP C the first eco-industrial zone according to international standards jointly implemented by United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Planning and Investment.”
At DEEP C Haiphong Industrial Zones, the initial results achieved in the process of converting to an ecological industrial zone, although small, have brought enormous benefits to the economy, environment, and society, contributing to enhancing the image and reputation of DEEP C in the international market.
Socially responsible businesses want to operate with partners who share the same viewpoints, standards, needs, vision, and orientation towards sustainable development, so DEEP C stands as a potential partner for long-term investment cooperation, he said.

According to Le Trung Kien, head of Haiphong Economic Zones Management Authority, the city wants to promote cooperation with Sweden, especially in areas where Sweden has strengths and Haiphong is interested in, such as science and technology, digital transformation, energy transformation, innovation, waste treatment, and the construction and development of seaports.
“In 2025, Haiphong will develop a new economic zone in the south of the city with the orientation of a green, ecological EZ, closely following environmental, social, and governance international trends, with specific preferential policies, including a free trade zone with a pro-business investment environment and outstanding preferential mechanisms to welcome foreign investors, especially those from Europe,” said Kien.
Established in 1997, DEEP C has developed 3,400 hectares across five IZs in Haiphong and Quang Ninh province.
To date, DEEP C has attracted more than 170 investment projects in production and logistics with a total investment of $7.5 billion, creating stable jobs for tens of thousands of direct and indirect workers in production and industrial services, contributing to the industrialisation and modernisation of Haiphong and the country. The zones have attracted famous global brands such as PHA, Bridgestone, Tesa, Tenowo, SKC, StarCharge, Pegatron, USI, Nippon Express, and Yusen Logistics. |
