“The prime minister’s acknowledgement of the company’s effort is a big encouragement. Ford Vietnam commits to continuing sustainable growth, developing the local car industry, and ensuring traffic safety,” said Pham Van Dung, CEO of Ford Vietnam.
Ford Vietnam, established in 1995, is a joint venture between Michigan-based Ford Motor Company (75 per cent) and state-owned auto part manufacturer Diesel Song Cong (25 per cent). It’s one of the biggest US investments in Vietnam.
The Ford assembly plant in the northern province of Hai Duong, which started production in 1997, has the capacity of 14,000 cars per year. Ford Vietnam currently has 29 agents in 15 cities and provinces. It employs 757 workers at the factory, the offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and 5,000 employees working for suppliers and agents.
Ford Vietnam has been reporting high growth in the recent three years, of 71 per cent in 2013 and 2014 and 70 per cent in the first half of 2015. Ford holds the third biggest market share, with popular models such as the Ford Ranger, Ford Transit and Ford Ecosport.
In the past 20 years of operation in Vietnam, the company has organised many activities to educate drivers on traffic safety. This August, the Ministry of Transport awarded the company with a certificate recognising its contributions to improving drivers’ skills and raising traffic safety in 2015.
