KIS Vietnam Securities accounts opened at the company between March and June were up by one-third.

The Korea-invested company did not reveal the number of the new accounts, which were set up during a three-month promotion programme from March to June 1 at KIS. However, CEO Kyung Hee Oh said the combined transaction value soared by 50 per cent.

The Ho Chi Minh City-based firm announced the nine winners of the promotion programme on June 14. The top three winners were the three customers with the biggest transaction values. The six others were the names identified via a lucky draw. All prizes totalled about $10,000.

Kyung said KIS currently owned 49 per cent of KIS Vietnam and local partners held the balance. However, if the Vietnamese government allowed foreign investors to increase their ownership cap at 49 per cent, KIS would raise its holding to 65 per cent. He said he did not know when the government would allow this.
