Ho Chi Minh City’s Phu My Hung township will display the world famous Rubber Duck from April 27 to May 31, joining the list of other cities worldwide having shown the giant duck.

The creator of the rubber duck, Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman, tried to entertain the world by a tour named “Spreading joy around the world” established in 2007. Displayed in Australia, Taiwan, Azerbaijan, the United States, China, Hong Kong, Belgium, Japan, Brazil, New Zealand, France and its native Holland, the duck has created a sensation, attracting huge crowds and resulting in some very creative photos of the duck.

In Vietnam this time, Phu My Hung Corporation, the developer of the township, and its associate company Phu Hung Life Insurance are the sponsors for the event. The 25m x 18m x 18m duck will be displayed on the Crescent Lake in the heart of the town.

“The Rubber Duck has been marveled-at by millions all over the globe since 2007,” said Phu My Hung Corporation’s president Gary Tseng.

The duck will sit on top of a 15-meter wide pontoon. The duck itself took one month to fabricate, and is inflated by internal fans connected to the power source via cables under the lake surface. The show’s five weeks will include photo contests, celebrity visits and other activities.

“We are a new company, and we could think of no better way to announce our launch than sponsoring the duck in Crescent Lake,” said Phu Hung Life Insurance general director Graeme Hannah.

The insurer started operations in Vietnam last year, with the major shareholders being Phu My Hung Corp., Phu Hung Assurance and Vietnamese company CX Technology.
