16 teams from Hanoi were divided into groups and took part in the first elimination round held in two days - September 3 and 4. After first elimination rounds in Hanoi, the fourth season of "Lotteria Challenge Cup" will take place in Ho Chi Minh City (September 10 – 11), Vinh (September 17), Danang (September 24), Haiphong (October 1) and Can Tho (October 8) before coming to the final in Ho Chi Minh City expected to take place on October 16.
With ‘Let's play fair’ as the main slogan, this year’s tournament will not only bring exciting football matches, but also an educational playground of true sportsmanship, honesty and a sense of discipline for children.
In order to actualise this slogan, a Fairplay Camp for youngsters will be held on October 15 with many activities where they will have joyful moments. In addition, the organisers will also award the Fairplay prize for the team that shows the best performance and the least fouls in the final round to encourage youngsters in understanding the importance of football fair competition.
Speaking at the ceremony, Tran Duc Phan, deputy director general of the General Department of Sports and Physical Training under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said the department was glad to welcome back Lotteria Challenge Cup 2016.
“Since it was first held in 2012, the tournament has become motivation for the development of junior football teams; I firmly believe that they are eager to show their ability after a year of practicing. With the fair play spirit which Lotteria wants to inspire through this year’s tournament, this will be a great environment for kids to practice their football skills and perfect moral characters of a true player,” he said.
During the past years, Lotteria Challenge Cup has become a place where young football talents are supported such as through the construction of a mini stadium by Lotteria in Hanoi last year.
“By creating a salutary playground of the honesty, nobility, sense of discipline and solidarity for children, Lotteria is confirming our presence for the development of Vietnam”, said Kim Dong Jin, CEO of Lotteria Vietnam. “For us, the truthfulness and the fair play are always the criterion to be placed on top; this is not just the message we want to convey through this tournament but also the value we pursue when operating in Vietnam.”
