Ho Chi Minh City extended social distancing by one more month

On August 15, Phan Van Mai, Standing Deputy Secretary of Ho Chi Minh Party Committee informed that the pandemic situation in Ho Chi Minh City has subsided but remains complicated with a high number of infections, as well as overloadedhealthcare system, posing the risk of a more severe outbreak.

Therefore, Ho Chi Minh City will extend social distancing for another month to focus on controlling the sources of infection, minimizing the number of infections, and reducing the number of deaths.

The city aims to bring the pandemic under control before September 15, according to Resolution No.86/NQ-CP dated August 6 of the government.

So far, Ho Chi Minh City has been under social distancing for three and a half months, beginning on May 31.

Also yesterday (August 15), Nguyen Thanh Phong, chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee has proposed four options for production during social distancing.

Under the first option, enterprises will operate under the "three on the spot" model where enterprises and employees conduct production, have meals, and rest after work at the same spot, either all together or in shifts.

With the second option, enterprises will operate under the “one road, two locations" model, in which workers are only allowed to move on a single route organised by their employer between their place of work and a concentrated residence.

The third option would be a combination of the "three on the spot" and “one road, two locations" model.

Finally, enterprises can follow the "four green" model, including green human resources, green roads, green production areas and green places to live.

Previously, many businesses in Ho Chi Minh City had to suspend production due to being unable to follow the "three on the spot" model and the significant costs and area it requires, as well as risks of cross-infection.
