Australian experts shared knowledge and experience in the food safety sector through the Vietnam-Australia Food Safety Forum organised by the Australian Embassy in Vietnam, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development in Hanoi on November 10.

The forum aims to create opportunities for the two countries to understand and share information about food safety management processes, as well as explore the challenges and issues around implementing food safety systems, technology, and processes.

“Australia is a world leading supplier of premium food and agricultural produce, which is well-known for its “clean, green, and safe” reputation. Its diverse food and agricultural sector is underpinned by best-practice safety standards, systems. and processes, thereby, Australian food and beverages are trusted by people all over the world,” said Australian Ambassador to Vietnam Hugh Borrowman.

“By transferring expertise to Vietnam, Australia can support the Vietnamese government in improving food safety standards, modernising food processing industries, and deliver health and economic benefits. Besides, we always listen to the Vietnamese government’s proposals to find areas for future collaboration in agriculture in general and food safety in particular,” he added.

“Food safety is a pressing issue and a primary concern for the Vietnamese government and more than 90 million Vietnamese people. Thereby, we need to approach and learn from the experiences of modern agricultural industries to improve the products’ quality as well as food safety standards.

Australia, as a country having a modern agriculture, has been consistently supporting Vietnam in building its position on the international market as well as enhancing the competitive capacity of Vietnamese agricultural products,” said Vu Van Tam, Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.

In the framework of the forum, roundtable discussions were held to increase intellectual exchange and explore commercial opportunities for the two countries.
