AkzoNobel continues renovating constructions in Danang

This is the second year AkzoNobel has chosen Danang, one of the 100 Resilient Cities by the Rockefeller Foundation, as the destination for its on-going Human Cities activities in Vietnam.

In partnership with Resilient City, AkzoNobel provided the communal halls and civil constructions with essential ingredients, colour and protection to make lives of residents living in areas highly-impacted by climate change more liveable and inspiring.

More than 9,000 litres of paints were provided, together with hundreds of labour hours to complete the work by end of September, right before the monsoon season started hitting the city.

While 100 civil storm-resilient houses have become more resilient with the new coat provided by AkzoNobel, the company also sponsored the repainting of the four communal halls in Hoa Vang and Lien Chieu districts in the form of ‘turnkey’ projects which will be essential in providing a better and safer shelter for the locals during the stormy season.

“These communal halls are the refuge of hundreds of local citizens in stormy season every year. The rapid coating progress along with the enthusiasm of AkzoNobel employees helped complete the work much faster than expected,” said Nguyen Bong, representative of the managing board of Hoa Phong Communal Hall of Hoa Vang district.

AkzoNobel also participated in the talkshow “Danang’s Resilience – From awareness to action”, hosted by Danang in conjunction with 100 Resilient Cities.

Here on behalf of AkzoNobel, David Teng, general manager of Decorative Paints Vietnam, shared how AkzoNobel as a global leading company in paints, coatings and specialty chemicals can help Danang and urban cities around the world deal with their challenges and become more resilient.

“One of the strongest commitments of AkzoNobel is to create more human urban environments across the world. We use our key strengths – essential ingredients, essential protection and essential colours – to energise communities and make their lives more livable and inspiring. The programme of renovating civil construction under storm-resilient standards shows our effort of contributing to the sustainable development of Danang city as well as Vietnam in general,” he said.

AkzoNobel produces paints and coatings and specialty chemicals, with well-known brands such as Dulux, Sikkens, International, Interpon and Eka. Headquartered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, AkzoNobel has approximately 45,000 people in around 80 countries.

Launched in 2014, Human Cities aims to the world’s urban areas deliver a stronger sense of community purpose, pride and happiness. Thanks to Human Cities, many successful projects have already been completed. For example, the initiative has helped to revitalise favelas in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, as well as creating jobs for young people in the UK. It is also making sport more accessible to young people and helping to restore historic landmarks, such as Burkill Hall in Singapore and the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.
