Thailand ranked third in group B of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup after beating Myanmar 2-1 and so will face Vietnam in a play-off tomorrow to decide the winner of the last and fifth ticket to the 2015 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

The four leaders of the 2014 Women’s Asian Cup taking place in Ho Chi Minh City from May 14 to 25 include Japan and Australia from group A and South Korea and China from group B.

In regulation, the four leaders of the two groups will win direct tickets to partake in the 2015 World Cup while the two third-ranked teams will fight in a play-off.

Vietnam was drawn in group A with world defending champions Japan, Asian reigning champions Australia, and Jordan.

In the previous matches, Vietnam defeated Jordan 3-1, but lost 0-4 to Japan and 0-2 to Australia.

The women’s Asian Cup finals have the participation of eight teams separated into two groups.

The decisive game

Yesterday, Chinese coach Chen Yun Fat of Vietnam led his team to watch the Thailand-Myanmar game to prepare for their clash on Wednesday.

The coach said Thailand has several talented players, so his Vietnamese players must pay ‘close attention’ in the coming match.

The players are the 27-year-old captain and midfielder Naphat Seesraum and striker Kanjana Sung Ngoen, who are both playing for Speranza FC of the Japanese professional women’s football league, and forward Thongsombut Rattikan.

Naphat was injured in the match with China on May 15.

The Vietnam-Thailand game will be broadcast live at 5:15 pm on Wednesday on Ho Chi Minh City Television channel HTV7 and national channel VTV2.
