The campaign is strongly supported by "Down-to-earth Grandma" Alice Fung, singer-songwriter and new father Phil Lam, Time Still Turns the Pages child star Sean Wong, and celebrity mother Grace Chan. In addition to sharing personal insights on positive parenting, they are calling on the public to sign the petition and become a "Seed Guardian" to protect children.

While the Mandatory Reporting of Child Abuse Ordinance, which came into effect earlier this year, requires 25 categories of professionals to report suspected abuse, Save the Children Hong Kong believes the law is only the baseline. For children to truly grow up with peace of mind, community-wide participation is essential. "Safe Start for Little Seed" begins with positive parenting and non-violent communication within the home, extending to schools and child-service organisations. Through Child Safeguarding Services and workshops, the campaign enhances the awareness and practical skills of frontline personnel in NGOs, schools, and sports centres. Parents, neighbours, coaches, and tutors can all become "Seed Guardians" by identifying risks early, showing active care, and knowing how to seek help.

Save the Children Hong Kong also reiterated that while mandatory reporting laws are in place, there is room for policy improvement. This includes gradually expanding mandatory reporting obligations to all roles and professionals who work with children, institutionalising safeguarding training within relevant tertiary curricula, and conducting regular staff training across organisations. The government should review its policies in a timely manner to ensure that children's safety is fully protected.
Eliminating Punishment: Accompanying Children Through Dialogue

Many parents in Hong Kong face heavy work pressure. When faced with a child's sudden needs—such as illness or emotional outbursts—they may resort to shouting or physical discipline out of frustration. However, harsh reprimands or corporal punishment only lead to short-term compliance and fail to help children understand the reasons behind their behaviour, potentially damaging the foundation of trust in the long run.

Veteran actress Alice Fung shared in a campaign video that she once used physical discipline when her son was young. She recalled slapping him after he ran into the road out of fear for his safety, admitting, "It was actually my own fear." When her son was seven, he was injured while playing; as she raised her hand to discipline him, he said, "Mommy, please don't hit me anymore, I'm already in a lot of pain." This was a wake-up call for her. Since then, she chose reasoning over physical punishment. "He is in his fifties now, and we are still very good friends," she said.
Trusting Children: Supporting Exploration with Empathy

Singer-songwriter Phil Lam mentioned that although his parents were strict, they never used corporal punishment. He credits their trust and support for allowing him to find his own path, a philosophy he now applies to his 18-month-old son. Using the example of weaning his son off a pacifier, Phil said, "I told him the pacifier is only for sleeping. Since you aren't sleeping now, why not give it back to me? Although he didn't fully understand, he thought about it and let go." Phil was surprised by the results, adding, "Don't assume children don't understand. They understand a lot." He reminded parents, "When children feel loved, they feel safe and confident to explore the world."

Sean Wong, the 14-year-old actor who portrayed a child under immense pressure in the film Time Still Turns the Pages, understands how a single word can leave a lasting mark. In reality, Sean is thankful his parents do not pressure him heavily regarding academics. During stressful exam periods, his mother takes him to flower markets or food fairs to relax. Recognising his luck, Sean noted the struggles of his peers: "I see classmates who get high grades but aren't happy. They feel they've disappointed their parents." He added: "I hope parents can see things from a child's perspective—knowing that they've tried their best, then praising and encouraging them. That would take so much pressure off us."

Strong relationships are built through consistent quality time—not only the amount of time spent together. Save the Children Hong Kong encourages parents to set aside 15 minutes every day—away from phones and work—to play, talk or read with their children. This makes it easier to tune in to children's thoughts and feelings, and helps strengthen their sense of safety and security. To support families, Save the Children Hong Kong has published the children's book, The Rights Twins and Their Guardian Bears. Through lovable illustrations, the book introduces the four fundamental rights of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child: survival, protection, development, and participation. By signing the online petition to be a "Seed Guardian" to affirm the commitment to protecting children's healthy development in safe environments and not turning a blind eye when abuse is suspected, the public can download the e‑book for free and practise the "15‑minute rule" through shared reading.

Ms Kalina Tsang, CEO of Save the Children Hong Kong, stated: "Becoming a 'Seed Guardian' is not just a slogan; it is an invitation. The law has built a safety net, but for children to truly flourish, the whole city must walk together to plant a culture of 'zero tolerance for child abuse' in every piece of Hong Kong soil. One active act of care today means one less regret tomorrow."

Reviewing Legislation for a Long-term Safe Environment

While welcoming the new Ordinance, Save the Children Hong Kong emphasises that the government must continuously monitor and improve policies. According to Save the Children Hong Kong's recent research report, Children's Views on Safety Within Organisations In Hong Kong, half of the 587 children surveyed (aged 9–17) felt they could not find a trustworthy staff member within child-facing organisations. While legislation provides the baseline for child protection, building a long‑term safe environment still requires systematic cultural change.

Save the Children Hong Kong recommends that the Government consider gradually expanding the scope of mandatory reporting to include all professionals who frequently come into contact with children. We also advocate for the institutionalisation of child safeguarding training by integrating it into relevant tertiary education curricula and implementing regular staff training across all child-facing organisations in Hong Kong. Only by fostering a "zero tolerance for child abuse" culture across all levels of society can Hong Kong truly become a child‑friendly, child‑first environment.

Save the Children Hong Kong is committed to advancing child protection through prevention. At community level, our Heart to Heart Parent-Child Programme strengthens parents' positive parenting and non-violent communication skills through workshops. It ensures children grow up in a respectful and harmonious environment, enhancing their self-protection awareness and parent-child relationships. Since its launch in 2018, the programme has served over 1,200 parents and caregivers, along with nearly 2,000 children in Hong Kong.

At the institutional level, our Child Safeguarding Services assist organisations involved in child-related work by providing services such as policy formulation, risk management, and staff training. We empower schools and NGOs with the knowledge, skills, and internal mechanisms needed to actively protect the children in their care.

At the policy level, we mobilise society to support child-based policies through advocacy and research reports. Home InStyle and Fashion InStyle bring together a wide range of international brands celebrated for their craftsmanship and creativity, serving as a dynamic platform for exchange across the design and lifestyle industries while sparking new ideas and collaborations.

Organised by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI) under the Vocational Training Council (VTC), and sponsored by the Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency (CCIDA), the 2nd MOTIFX invites emerging designers to reinterpret traditional Chinese motifs for contemporary living. Under the theme "Culture to Nature – A Surreal Garden of Botanical Patterns," the exhibition explores the Chinese "grass" radical (艹 / 艸) through diverse creative perspectives. The works span a range of contexts and formats, from two- and three-dimensional pieces to both physical and digital mediums.

Curated by Michael LEUNG, the exhibition features works by 30 local design students and emerging designers from a range of disciplines, alongside participating local and international designers including Chulan KWAK, Cynthia MAK, Made by Sandwich, Karmuel YOUNG, Tomy NG, Moon.noon, STICKYLINE, and Leona FUNG. Over 100 original patterns inspired by the 艹 / 艸 radical bloom in Chinese character across the exhibition space, each rooted in the same ancient, ever‑living origin yet expressing distinct creative voices.

On 30 April 2026, in an artist panel discussion titled "Cultural Fusion in Lifestyle Design: The Surreal Aesthetics of MOTIFX," moderated by Edith CHEUNG, Creative Director of MOTIFX, curator Michael LEUNG, artist Leona FUNG, and Moon HUNG will share their insights on blending traditional Chinese elements with contemporary lifestyle design. Through their works across multiple MOTIFX venues, they will discuss the effortless fusion of East and West in Hong Kong's creative life, revealing the surreal beauty born from cultural intersection.

Featured Highlights: From Calligraphic Lines to Gardens of Time

Chulan KWAK – "Cursive Structure"

Chulan KWAK's Cursive Structure series transforms two‑dimensional calligraphy into three‑dimensional objects. Inspired by the flowing strokes of Caoshu (草書) and the Small Seal Script (小篆體) form of the 艹 / 艸 radical, the work turns "Radical Grass (艹 / 艸)" into a pair of low chairs.

By keeping the distinction between 艹 / 艸 and 木 (tree), the pieces are set apart from the vertical form of trees and bring the energy and tension of calligraphic brushwork into physical space.

Cynthia MAK – "Tea Lamp"

Drawing inspiration from the Chinese character 茶 （tea） and the poetic essence of "Life is like tea – bitter at first, then sweet," Cynthia reflects on life's delicate balance between darkness and brightness in her creation, "Tea Lamp". She reimagines the traditional Chinese lantern through vibrant colours and geometric abstraction, which serves as a warm reminder that, after a bitter day, a gentle radiance always awaits at home.

Made by Sandwich – "Garden of States"

Made by Sandwich's Garden of Time probes the philosophical relationship between the 艹/ 艸 radical and time. The designers argue that numerous 艹/艸 – derived characters (such as 茂, 蘇, 萎, 荒) illustrate the shifting conditions of plants across time rather than static shapes. The work breaks away from a linear conception of time, layering moments of growth, decline, and disappearance onto a single visual. By assembling these "time slices" into one composition, it constructs a garden of time in which multiple states coexist, showing the simultaneous presence of flourishing and disappearance.

Karmuel YOUNG & Tomy NG - "Tower"

Inspired by the radical grass symbol (艹 / 艸), Karmuel YOUNG and Tomy NG collaborate on the multimedia work, "Tower". A still yet highly charged installation that captures a moment of growth, "Tower" fuses art, fashion, and furniture using contemporary raw materials, dutifully interpreting growth as a process of emergence, layering, and change.

Karmuel shapes the base on Suprematist and Constructivist ideas, using rigid geometric forms and a neutral palette to highlight the texture of the materials, creating a stable, balanced yet restrained structure.

Tomy adds a glowing cellular element that acts as both light and living form. The floor lamp is designed as a suspended "cell": a translucent 3D‑printed resin core wrapped in an inflatable latex membrane that functions like a placenta. As the latex inflates and deflates, the shape expands and contracts, shifting between open and enclosed states. Compared with the solid base, the structure feels fragile, porous, and time‑based, turning light into a living presence shaped by pressure and duration.

Immersive Experiences: The Intersection of Virtual and Reality

The exhibition utilizes multi-media works and installations, leading visitors into a sensory experience.

Moon.noon – "Blossom Unbounds"

Moon.noon's "Blossom Unbounds" creates a multisensory, immersive experience that brings together dynamic visuals and music into one seamless environment for MOTIFX. Drawing inspiration from the grass radical (艹 / 艸) in Chinese characters, the work abstracts botanical forms into flowing patterns that reflect the cycles of the 24 solar terms and local flora.

Visual and auditory elements are carefully combined so that viewers move between the real and the digital, experiencing the changing seasons—from spring's blossoming to winter's quiet dormancy—and feeling the continuous rhythm of nature and culture. The installation invites personal discovery while dissolving the boundaries between traditional art and immersive, sensory‑driven design.

STICKYLINE - "Geometric Variants in Growth"

STICKYLINE's large-scale installation Geometric Variants in Growth questions the boundary between the virtual and the real. This lush geometric jungle is built entirely from the endless stacking of two simple paper modules, each patterned with lines that resemble leaf veins while also echoing digital barcodes.

The work suggests that, as we allow real, tangible nature to gradually fade away, every like, share, and copy‑paste on social media nurtures an ever‑expanding virtual jungle that spirals out of control.

By inviting visitors to step into this man-made landscape, the installation prompts reflection on the increasingly blurred symbiosis between humans and nature—where both are quietly disappearing at once.

Contemporary Transformations of Traditional Craft

The exhibition also features works by artist Leona FUNG. Her brand ByLeona's premium porcelain series blends the auspicious symbolism of traditional Chinese floral motifs with contemporary geometric aesthetics.

Leona moves beyond ceramics as mere tableware, selectively blended in Motifx ambassadors' pattern with ByLeona's original designs, extending intricate patterns onto functional objects such as floor lamps, mirrors, and candle holders. Guided by the principle that "every pattern carries meaning, and every meaning is auspicious," she seamlessly integrates cultural symbols into modern living spaces, showing how traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design can speak to each other.

This April, step into the symbolic world hidden within Chinese characters and immerse yourself in the myriad forms of this fantastical natural realm.

Born in Hong Kong, Michael LEUNG earned his Master's degree from Design Academy Eindhoven in the Netherlands, where he later founded Studio AA (previously MIRO). His practice spans graphic, product, and spatial design, often exploring the intersections of craftsmanship and industry, local culture, and sustainability. Recipient of the Hong Kong Young Design Talent Award and Perspective 40 Under 40, his work has been showcased at Milan Design Week, Dutch Design Week, and other major international exhibitions. In recent years, he has collaborated with institutions such as the Vitra Design Museum (Germany) and the V&A (UK), extending his creative vision into exhibition curation.

Chulan KWAK
Chulan KWAK is a Seoul‑based designer whose work spans sculpture, furniture, and spatial design. Trained in craft and conceptual design (BFA, Hongik University; MA, Design Academy Eindhoven), he focuses on transforming the energy and rhythm of calligraphy into three‑dimensional form, allowing shapes to extend as if freely brushed through space.

His practice centres on the distinction between the static line and the dynamic stroke, using layered plywood and MDF to construct fluid, volumetric gestures that replace carving with assembly. Through his ongoing Cursive Structure series, KWAK turns calligraphic strokes into chairs, benches, and sculptures that capture movement, balance, and the constant transformation of nature and form.

Cynthia MAK
Cynthia MAK is an emerging Hong Kong artist and designer whose work is known for its distinctive compositional language and geometric arrangements, forming a unique abstract style. Her paintings combine colour, form, and aesthetic judgment with emotional expression, drawing viewers into a cheerful and uplifting atmosphere.

Initially drawn to art as a way to express herself beyond words, Cynthia re‑engaged with painting during the 2021 pandemic, embracing the creative control it offered and embarking on a new professional path. Her work has been shown at institutions such as the Hong Kong Museum of Art, Ginza Six in Tokyo, and Abu Dhabi Art, and she has collaborated with renowned brands including Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Isetan Shinjuku, and Hong Kong Landmark on projects that bring joy to audiences and promote a healthy lifestyle.

Made By Sandwich Made by Sandwich is a Shanghai‑based creative collective founded in 2023. Attuned to the fast‑changing visual landscape, the studio offers integrated services including visual identity, packaging design, book and publication design, 3D and motion design, and exhibition curation. At Made by Sandwich, design is not just an output but the condition for fostering communication.

Karmuel YOUNG Karmuel YOUNG is a Hong Kong–based menswear designer and founder of the cross‑media brand KARMUEL YOUNG. After graduating, he worked at Damir Doma in Paris and Ute Ploier in Vienna, then returned to Hong Kong to lead creative projects at Lane Crawford and design menswear for I.T. He launched his label in 2014, initially focusing on footwear and accessories, and presented his first full menswear collection in 2019.

He has received Lane Crawford’s “Creative Call Out” award and was named one of “10 Asian Designers To Watch” in 2021. The brand continues to explore innovative cutting, sustainability, and cross‑disciplinary collaborations, gradually building a contemporary men’s wardrobe.

Tomy NG Tomy NG is a London‑based artist who works primarily with inflatable latex. His practice explores time and existence, translating abstract philosophical ideas into tangible sculptural forms. Through cycles of inflation and deflation, his works present time not as a linear sequence but as a shifting dimension, where air becomes an invisible medium that shapes form and embodies duration.

His work spans sculpture, spatial installation, and wearable objects. Recent projects include Nascent with BAD at YoungSpace London, the performance collaboration Symbiont with Untitlab at ICA London, and the inflatable latex vests Tire 01 / Muscle 01 presented with Karmuel YOUNG in Los Angeles.

Leona FUNG Leona FUNG is the founder and artist of Hong Kong aesthetic brand ByLeona. Born and raised in Hong Kong, she studied at the University of Cambridge and began her career in private banking before launching her own ceramic brand, combining business insight with artistic sensibility. Leona specialises in translating Eastern cultural symbols through modern design, using ceramics and home‑living products to express an “Eastern essence, Western expression” aesthetic. Her works have been shown at international platforms such as Maison&Objet and Fine Art Asia, and are now in the Hong Kong Palace Museum, the Hong Kong Museum of Art, and other art institutions, high‑end hotels, and shopping malls. She also creates bespoke designs for global brands, promoting contemporary Eastern aesthetics and cross‑cultural dialogue.
Moon.noon Moon.noon is a real-time visual artist who masterfully blends data-driven storytelling with immersive audio-visual and sensory experiences. A former user-experience designer, he now transforms complex sources — climate data, urban landscapes, audience interaction — into powerfully evocative visual languages. His works have appeared at M+, Hong Kong Chinese Orchestra, West Kowloon Freespace Jazz Festival, and in collaborations with Coca-Cola, LG, and Samsung.
STICKYLINE Founded in 2011 by Hong Kong creative designers Mic LEONG and Soilworm LAI, STICKYLINE is celebrated for its large-scale polyhedral sculptures that reveal the beauty of creative engineering, mathematics, and geometry. Working primarily with paper and metal, and integrating kinetics, sound, and light, the duo produces minimalist, durable, and strikingly futuristic installations, site-specific works, and private commissions that have earned widespread acclaim in the design world over the years.

Prof. Dr. Yodchanan spoke about elevating "SPACE-F Batch 7" to the policy level and building awareness, stating that MHESI aims to present food innovation products from the startups in this batch at the upcoming Cabinet meeting. This will allow the Prime Minister to taste them, raising awareness that FoodTech is the nation's new future. The products will be presented to the Cabinet in the next two weeks.

Regarding the core concept of combining technology with "Thai taste," Prof. Dr. Yodchanan emphasized that no matter how advanced the technology is, it must maintain the "Nice taste of Thailand." He cited a "high-tech omelet" he previously tasted as an example, noting that there is still room for improvement to make it taste closer to an authentic Thai omelet so that the technology can truly win over consumers' hearts.

The MHESI Minister continued that regarding food innovation under the Wellness Economy, this year focuses on using the Wellness Economy as a New Growth Engine. This is not limited strictly to food but includes AI, ICT, and software, aiming to push Thailand into a global Wellness Tourism Hub with support from the BOI in connecting investment opportunities.

Prof. Dr. Yodchanan further stated that regarding the use of biodiversity and quality ingredients (Biodiversity & GI), startups will be encouraged to utilize Thailand's rich biodiversity and GI products as substitutes for imported raw materials. This will help reduce costs and create a unique identity.

"As for connecting the 'Thinker' with the 'Doer,' this program emphasizes linking startups with large industrial corporations and investors. This helps startups in the Accelerator group advance toward Series A or B funding, while helping the Incubator group learn business and pitching experiences from their seniors to cross the business 'Death Valley.' Furthermore, regarding food and nutrition security in the era of war: in the current global conditions facing wartime situations, Food Security and Nutrition Security are vital. This program is an opportunity for startups to create innovations that help solve problems for the whole world, with the government working closely with SPACE-F to create new services and products," the MHESI Minister said.

However, "SPACE-F Batch 7" features 20 participating startups from 10 countries, focusing on the Proof of Concept (POC) strategy to ensure they can tangibly grow toward commercialization on an international scale.

Dr. Krithpaka Boonfueng, Executive Director of the National Innovation Agency (NIA), stated that NIA aims to strengthen the potential of startups and innovative entrepreneurs to overcome business crises and grow commercially in a tangible way. Over the past 6 years, the SPACE-F program has concretely reinforced its role as a regional food innovation hub by incubating and accelerating over 100 startups from 18 countries worldwide, generating a total funding value of over 5.1 billion THB. For the SPACE-F Year 7 program, it marks another major milestone of leapfrog growth, setting a new international record with an all-time high of 204 applicants, continuously increasing from 156 in Cohort 6 and 148 in Cohort 2, reflecting the confidence of global startups in the program's potential. Concurrently, the program has significantly expanded its international reach, with applicants from 57 countries worldwide, up from 34 countries in the previous cohort, affirming that SPACE-F is a truly global platform connecting and driving world food innovation.

"The SPACE-F program is considered a vital mechanism in driving the development of a strong and comprehensive foodtech startup ecosystem by systematically connecting knowledge, technology, and the industrial sector together. Particularly, it provides opportunities for startups to co-develop and test real products (Proof of Concept: POC) with large corporate partners, as well as access expert networks and world-class infrastructure. This includes testing protein innovations focused on appearance, freshness, and taste with Thai Union; developing modern health and nutrition solutions with ThaiBev and Nestlé; utilizing deep-tech research laboratories from Mahidol University; and enhancing fundraising capabilities from Foodland Ventures, which plays a crucial role in reducing business risks and effectively increasing the chances of commercialization. For SPACE-F Year 7, it aims to elevate startup development through 2 main programs: the Incubator Program, which focuses on laying business foundations and developing prototypes into market-ready products, and the Accelerator Program, which focuses on accelerating business expansion through connections with strategic partners and investors. About RV-001
RV-001 is a gene therapy designed to restore vision in individuals with advanced retinitis pigmentosa (RP), the leading inherited cause of blindness in young adults, affecting approximately two million people worldwide. RV-001 delivers a chimeric rhodopsin — a novel photosensitive protein that combines the high sensitivity of animal rhodopsin with the self-regenerating properties of microbial rhodopsin — via an adeno-associated virus (AAV) vector through a single intravitreal injection. As a theoretical property when compared with conventional optogenetic approaches that rely on microbial ion channels requiring intense light or external devices, RV-001 activates native G-protein-mediated phototransduction, with the potential to enable high-sensitivity improvement in visual function under natural ambient light conditions without goggles or external devices. RV-001 is a G-protein-coupled receptor (GPCR)-based optogenetic therapy to enter clinical trials for all individuals with RP, regardless of the underlying genetic mutation.

Phase 1/2 Clinical Trial Overview
The ongoing Phase 1/2 first-in-human trial is an open-label, dose-escalation study evaluating the safety and preliminary efficacy of a single intravitreal injection of RV-001 in individuals with advanced retinitis pigmentosa. The trial enrolled patients with no light perception (NLP) in low-dose and high-dose cohorts at a clinical site in Japan. The primary endpoint is safety; exploratory efficacy assessments include visual acuity, full-field stimulus testing (FST), and functional vision testing, including mobility tasks and table-top object recognition. The interim results will be interpreted in the context of a full study which is still in progress.

Key Clinical Findings
In the dose-escalation phase with six patients enrolled across two cohorts, RV-001 was associated with no new findings suggestive of significant safety concerns; specifically, no dose-limiting toxicities (DLTs) or drug-related serious adverse events (SAEs). No safety or tolerability concerns were reported.

Dose-dependent trends across vision endpoints were suggested. In the high-dose cohort, all three enrolled patients progressed from no light perception (NLP) to light perception (LP) or better within one month of treatment, with one patient further reporting chart-based visual acuity measurable by the Berkeley Rudimentary Vision Test (BRVT). In the low-dose cohort, one of three patients progressed to light perception at approximately three months.

These visual acuity gains were corroborated by improvements in full-field stimulus testing (FST) and functional vision assessments, including mobility tasks and table-top object recognition. The convergence of signals across multiple independent measures suggests the possibility of biologically meaningful changes in vision.

Full-year operating revenue reached RMB 184.06 billion (US$26.19 billion), an 11.7% year-on-year increase. Net cash flow from operating activities rose 49.1% to RMB 44.02 billion (US$6.26 billion). The board proposed a cash dividend of RMB 0.90 (US$0.13) per 10 shares, representing a payout ratio exceeding 40%. TCL CSOT deployed "X-Intelligence 3.0," the display industry's first domain-specific large AI model with advanced reasoning capabilities. Applied directly to product development, the model increased material development efficiency by 30% and product issue analysis efficiency by 20%.

Based on tests across leading Mixture-of-Experts (MoE) models—including GPT-OSS, Qwen, GLM, and DeepSeek—Moreh achieved LLM inference performance on Tenstorrent Galaxy Wormhole matching or surpassing NVIDIA DGX A100-class systems, demonstrating a compelling alternative to conventional GPU-centric AI infrastructure.

Moreh also improved cost efficiency by implementing a disaggregated serving architecture that combines GPUs with Tenstorrent Wormhole chips. By utilizing Tenstorrent processors as dedicated prefill accelerators, the company reduced reliance on high-cost HBM and lowered overall infrastructure costs.

The results were first unveiled at Tenstorrent's launch event, TT-Deploy, held on May 1 in San Francisco.

As a strategic partner of Tenstorrent and a major external contributor to Metalium, Moreh showcased a live LLM inference demo at the event.
