Phuc announced as caretaker national coach

Hoang Van Phuc, manager of the Hanoi T&T Youth team, has been officially nominated as caretaker coach of the men’s national football squad for the upcoming 2015 Asian Cup qualifiers.

Accordingly, Phuc is assigned to lead the national team in the two qualifying games against the United Arab Emirates (UAE) on February 6 and Hong Kong (China) on March 23.

Phuc, 49, is known for his abundant experience and achievements in training youth teams, winning the 2010 AFF U-16 Youth Championships with the national U-16 team and leading the national U-19 team to the 2011 AFC U-19 Championships finals.

Most recently, the men’s national U-22 football team, coached by Phuc, finished runners-up at the 2012 Binh Duong Television (BTV) Cup after losing to hosts, Binh Duong, 0-2 in the decisive match.

The national men’s squad will play a warm-up friendly match against Hyundai Mipo Dolphin FC from the Republic of Korea, at Hang Day stadium on January 31, before beginning their 2015 Asian Cup campaign with a home clash against the UAE six days later.
