Two high-speed boats have transported the first shipment of 40 tonnes of fruits and vegetables from Tien Giang to Ho Chi Minh City to supply local residents amidst the food supply chain disruption.
Tran Song Hai, general director of GreenlinesDP said that the municipal authorities have greenlighted the company to use the high-speed boats to ship fruits and vegetables from Tien Giang to Ho Chi Minh City. The shipments are made completely free-of-charge. After docking at Bach Dang port, the city began distributing the goods through local retail channels.
"To ensure pandemic prevention, the staff and sailors of the high-speed boat stay on board. A local team in Tien Giang is responsible for loading goods on the boats. Meanwhile, another team in Ho Chi Minh City will unload and bring them ashore," he added.
Currently, the company has prepared five high-speed boats to transport essential goods from the western provinces to Ho Chi Minh City and vice versa. On average, it takes around four hours to transport goods from Ben Tre or Tien Giang to Ho Chi Minh City.
Initially, GreenlinesDP provides free support with vehicles and operations while Petrolimex Saigon sponsors fuel for the boats. Businesses take care of the cost of loading and unloading goods. After the period of free service, GreenlinesDP will negotiate reasonable costs with other organisations and businesses looking to transport goods.
The representative of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Industry and Trade (DoIT) said that the transportation of essential goods by waterway is in line with water traffic safety as well as pandemic prevention regulations. The solution is necessary to ensure the continuous and smooth circulation of goods without disrupting the supply chain between Ho Chi Minh City and other localities.
