The COVID-19 pandemic has had devastating impacts on a wide range of industries like tourism, transportation, and manufacturing. Since April 27, especially after the April 30-May 1 national holiday, the number of infections in Vietnam has significantly increased to more than 4,000 positive cases in just about a month. There is no sign that the number would stop rising anytime soon.
The fourth wave of the coronavirus is a source of growing complications due to the appearance of two new variants from the UK and India, both of which are able to spread faster than the original strain.
Following the provisions of the Law on Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases, promulgated by the Vietnamese government in 2010, people diagnosed with COVID-19 are exempt from medical examination and treatment expenses. It means that once a person is confirmed positive, their treatment in an isolation ward will be covered. The state will shoulder all expenses for medical examination, patient bed, technical services, drugs, blood, infusion fluids, and testing, according to the guidance of the Ministry of Health. The regulation is enjoying wide public support as patients need only pay for the cost of their meals.

Specifically, BIDV MetLife has been providing coverage of VND25 million ($1,090) to all customers who are unfortunately test positive for COVID-19. Beneficiaries of this package include individual customers who buy insurance and the insured of the insurance policy that (i) have a valid insurance policy with BIDV MetLife and (ii) have a positive test for the SARS-CoV-2 virus issued by a competent health facility since May 1, 2021.
Customers can receive a financial assistance package for up to 60 days from the date of testing positive for COVID-19.
