In the first chilly days of 2021, hundreds of poor households in difficult circumstances from Nam Dan district of Nghe An province and Huong Son district of Ha Tinh province gathered at the central buildings of the two districts to receive Lunar New Year gifts.

300 gifts worth VND180 million($7,830) and 200 gifts worth VND120 million ($5,220) are directly handed to the poorest cases in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces. Each gift package valued at VND600,000 ($26), was great encouragement to the disadvantaged families, making their Tet festival warmer and happier. The special gift was not only presented in the two provinces but Thien Tam Fund donated 100,000 gifts worth VND60 billion ($2.6 million) to the poor in 62 cities and provinces across the country for the new year.

Accompanying Thien Tam Fund from 2013 up to now, VIR and Thien Tam Fund have awarded 7,633 Tet gifts, with a total value of more than VND4 trillion ($173.9 million), to 7,633 poor households in difficult circumstances in provinces of Thai Binh, Quang Ninh, Tuyen Quang, Nghe An, Ha Tinh, and Quang Nam.
From 2006 to 2020, the total funds Thien Tam Fund has shared with the community reached VND9.8 trillion ($426.1 million) through 50 charity programmes deployed in various fields. These included 18,000 scholarships distributed to students and more than 25,000 poor and near-poor households supported to breed cows to improve their livelihood.
In addition, about 1,000 Vietnamese Heroic Mother and policy beneficiaries were cared for and 216 schools, classes, and semi-boarding houses were built. Thien Tam Fund has also provided support to teachers and students in isolated and mountainous areas and donated 24,000 houses of gratitude and houses of love to the poor.
Also on this occasion, the representatives of VIR and kind-hearted sponsors of its Swing for the Kids Fund have joined to grant 200 scholarships worth VND150 million ($6,520) to the poor but excellent students in Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces.
Over the past 14 consecutive years, VIR’s prestigious annual golf tournament gathered more than VND17.5 billion ($760,870) to provide over 16,000 scholarships to disadvantaged students, build IT classrooms with new computers, and upgrade numerous schools in over 40 cities and provinces across the country. As a much-anticipated charity sporting event organised each spring, the tournament brings further opportunities and hope for the future for Vietnamese students.
