Swing for the Kids 2017 hands out 160 scholarships

Vietnam Investment Review honours 160 disadvantaged students who produced stellar results in the previous academic year with scholarships worth VND80 million in Nam Dan and Thanh Chuong districts as part of the celebration of the 127th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh on May 19 in the central province of Nghe An, the leader’s hometown.

On the occasion of the 127th anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh, the delegation of Vietnam Investment Review and the Ministry of Planning and Investment organised a special voyage to visit Uncle Ho’s hometown in Nam Dan district and to hand out scholarships to students in need from Nam Dan and Thanh Chuong districts.

Of the 160 scholarships in total, 100 were provided to students in Nam Dan district, and the remainder went to pupils in Thanh Chuong district. The money was raised by the scholarship fund of VIR's charity golf tournament Swing for the Kids. Also on this occasion, the Money, Finance and Investment Security Department of the Ministry of Public Security's A84 donated 160 scholarships worth VND32 million to these students.

At the ceremony, the Money, Finance and Investment Security Department, in co-operation with the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organisation, donated 100 wheelchairs to Nam Dan district and 30 bicycles valued at VND60 million to Thanh Chuong district.

In Nam Dan district, VIR group held traditional ceremonies at Ho Chi Minh’s childhood home and paid visits to his birthplace in Kim Lien, as well as his mother’s birthplace in Hoang Tru. The special trip created an occasion for VIR’s editorial board and reporters to pay tribute to Uncle Ho, who is considered the nation’s preeminent hero and culturist.

Joining VIR's group in handing out the scholarships and visiting Uncle Ho’s hometown were representatives from the Ministry of Planning Investment, Swing for the Kids’ donors who have contributed to the scholarship fund for disadvantaged but outstanding students over the past 10 years.

Among them were SeaBank, the co-organiser of Swing for the Kids 2017, Samsung Vietnam, Diamond sponsors, and Vingroup, Platinum sponsor for the charity tournament.
