CapitaLand gives books, stationeries to Vietnamese children

Volunteers from CapitaLand Vietnam and CapitaLand’s wholly-owned serviced residence business unit, The Ascott Limited (Ascott), joined teachers and students of two CapitaLand Hope schools – Thanh Phuoc A Hope School in the Mekong Delta province of Long An and Nang Yen Hope School in the northern province of Phu Tho – in the new school year ceremony.

The volunteers, including board members, senior management and staff, gave out stationeries, schoolbags and shoes to around 500 students and presented VND50 million ($23,400) worth of scholarships to 277 poor students.

They also gave lanterns, milk, cakes and candies to the students and created a festive ambiance by having some interactive games with the students, teaching them how to make toys and cooking western food for them.

“We greatly appreciate CapitaLand’s effort and believe that this event marks the continuation of a lasting relationship between CapitaLand and our Hope School, and I hope that we can continue working together to further develop the future of the children in our community,” said Vo Thi Ngoc Giau, vice principal of Thanh Phuoc A Hope School.

“Beyond donations, we are also committed to giving time and attention to the schoolchildren through volunteer expeditions. The schoolbags and shoes we have donated today symbolise the potential of every child to achieve greatness through education, and the hope for a better future,” said Lim Hua Tiong, general manager of CapitaLand Vietnam, North Office.

Since 2011, CapitaLand has helped build two new Nang Yen Hope School and Thanh Phuoc A Hope School building as well as upgrade the existing schools facilities.

During the months of July and August, CapitaLand and Ascott’s staff launched a fund raising campaign named “SG50-Join hands for Vietnamese children”. The fund was raised by cash contribution and items donation which was later sold in the charity bazaar to residents of all Somerset buildings. CapitaLand and The Ascott’s staffs also raised VND200 million ($9,300) for the campaign “Support Vietnamese children going to school” through various fund raising activities.

CapitaLand Vietnam and The Ascott Limited have also organised various corporate social responsibility activities such as blood donation drives, first aid training and various activities for street children.
