Vietnam’s National Assembly on November 12 appointed Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long as Minister of Health with 95.42 per cent of votes in favour.

Long is now officially taking the office as leader of the Ministry of Health (MoH) four months since taking the helm as acting Minister of Health.
Nguyen Thanh Long was born in 1966 in the northern province of Nam Dinh. He took many positions at the MoH, including Head of the Vietnam Administration of HIV/AIDS Control, and then Deputy Minister of Health.
In October 2018, he was appointed Deputy Director of the Central Propaganda Department. At the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, with his decades of experience in the field of infectious diseases, he returned as Deputy Minister of Health in January 2020.
At present, the MoH has four deputy ministers namely Truong Quoc Cuong, Nguyen Truong Son, Do Xuan Tuyen and, Tran Van Thuan.
